Brief presentation of the Mission

In addition to the work conducted within the Conference on Disarmament’s work programme, the French Mission in Geneva as well as in New York is dedicated to questions related to nuclearnon-proliferation (NPT), disarmament and biological weapons.

The Mission also provides for France’s presence in Geneva-based negotiations on mines and explosive remnants of wars. It takes part in all discussions and initiatives on small arms and light weapons.

Moreover, it is tasked with attending the annual proceedings of the First Commission of the United Nations General Assembly and of the Disarmament Commission in New York.

Finally, the Mission maintains close ties with NGOs and research institutes dedicated to disarmament and security, in particular the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), the Centre of Security Policy in Geneva, the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) and the Swiss NGO "Small Arms Survey"

All questions on this matter can be addressed to the Mission.

N.B.: Questions related to the implementation of the Paris Convention on the interdiction of chemical weapons are followed by our Mission to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague, those concerning the implementation of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) are followed by our Mission to the UN in Vienna.
