Permanent Mission of France
to the Conference on Disarmament

The Mission

THE AMBASSADOR’S WORD

" Welcome to the website of the French Mission for disarmament and non-proliferation in Geneva"

This permament mission is tasked with advocating France’s positions on matters of security, disarmament and non-proliferation,

  • in Geneva: Conference on Disarmament, biological disarmament (Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention), 1980 Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW)

  • in New York: First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, in charge of disarmament and non-proliferation, Disarmament Comission.

  • in other more itinerant frameworks: Non-Proliferation Treaty, Small Arms and Light Weapons, Ottawa Convention on anti-personnel mines.

It also ensures a liaison role with various Geneva-based centers and institutes in charge of disarmament and security issues (GCSP, UNIDIR, DCAF, GICHD).

Our action is part of a wider, resolutely multilateral, cooperative and demanding perspective, regularly emphasized by the President of the French Republic, the goal of which is to promote an international security system founded on the United Nations Charter that is able to respond to "threats to peace and international security".

Faithful to its own commitments, France takes full part in the international community’s action and works to strengthen the non-proliferation regime and disarmament efforts in close cooperation with its European partners, in the framework of a common strategy.

The task entrusted to this mission is at the heart of the debate on international security. It implies exchanges of views and forward looking reflexions: the conjunction of an exceptionnal intellectual network bringing together diplomatic representations, many international agencies, NGOs and representatives of civil society as well as the great humanitarian tradition upon which rests Geneva’s reputation constitutes in this regard an exceptionnal asset. I hope that this website will contribute to facilitating this dialogue and will be of interest to you. Such is our ambition.

See you soon,
